The Yucatan Peninsula encompasses the three Mexican states of Yucatan, Campeche, and Quintana Roo, as well as northern parts of bordering countries, Belize and Guatemala. From historic Maya ruins to the cool waters of the Caribbean Sea, the Yucatan Peninsula has something for all types of travelers. Although Mexico is known for being a very affordable destination, the popularity and development in parts of the Yucatan Peninsula have increased prices. In some areas, it can be on par or more expensive than the US. Backpacking on a budget might be a little trickier but it is not impossible with a bit of planning and research.
